Just be aware, wherever you are travelling to, using WiFi is the best option. You can keep in touch with friends and family by using apps such as Whatsapp or Messenger.
If using O2 Travel the daily charge will be triggered by sending one text.
Also remember if you are travelling within the Europe zone, your allowances will work the same as if you are at home...

Firstly there is never a dumb question...so thanks for asking.
Yes you will need data roaming and mobile data on if you want to use O2 Travel.
However, if on any given day you want to use Wifi instead, just turn it off. You are only charged for the days you use it.
