How can I keep my number without a contract?

I've been an O2 customer for over 15 years but have now moved to Germany. I have a new number and tariff for usage here. I expect to only be abroad for two years and would like to return to using O2 when I inevitably return to living in the UK. I would like to keep my number (it was originally from Virgin anyway) but obviously don't want to pay for a contract I'm not using. How should I proceed?

Thanks in advance.

@Demeter Swap it onto an international Pay & Go sim. You only have to make a chargeable call or send a text once every six months to keep it active.

SIM Swap: a mini guide (incl eSim) - O2 Community

Hi @Demeter,

Keeping your number is definitely possible. Providing your monthly plan is at the end of term, we can move your number over to an O2 Pay and Go sim card. You'll need to give us a call to arrange this and we can explain the process and how to keep the number active while you're in Germany slight_smile
