Going to Australia Oz and I have 12 Months left on my contract.

Do I have any options that don't involve buying my way out of my contract?

Short answer - No !

Longer answer, get someone to take over your contract and payments, or as above ^^

The only option I can think off is for you to sell your phone to pay off your contract and then get yourself a PAYG.

Or find a family member willing to take on the tariff out of their bank account whilst you run down your remaining months. Then when you're in the last month, give 30 days notice transfer the number to payg and then the family member can continue with the number. Of course it means 2 things:

1) you'll still get calls on that number from your mates/family/ppi

2) you'll still be liable for all unpaid bills so be careful in handing over the sim.

No.  Your choice to go to Australia, O2 shouldn't be out of pocket as a result.
