Generation crossover pricing

Hi all,

I'm looking to finally take the leap off the Apple bandwagon for my next upgrade and move to either Xperia Z3 compact or HTC M8 mini (If I'm honest I'm leaning more towards Sony) This is mainly for budget reasons as obviously their contracts are a lot cheaper for the amount of data I need.

My question is, with the Xperia Z4 and HTC M9 imminent, when would be the best time to go for one of these phones? I'm hoping the price will come down a bit for the contracts for these and I'm not particularly interested in the new gen, however I'm concerned if I wait too long the Z3 and M8 might drop off the options list as 'obsolete'

It's all about timing I think, but hoping someone has previously done the same who can offer advice!

Best time for both will be the few weeks after announcement of the devices.
In the time between reveal and retail, stores will be trying to get stock of the older models shifted to make way for the newer models.

It will take 6 months or more before they become "obsolete" as far as O2 are concerned and even then they may still be available at CPW.
They are still selling the S3 which was launched 3 years ago.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
