I have inserted the SIM card that came with my new device and getting a message saying the SIM is not provisioned. Can somebody help me with this please?

If you got it as an upgrade, use the old sim.
If it is a new contract then the sim needs activating.

I could use my original SIM but this phone is 5G ready so I assume the SIM will be too where as my original is not obviously.

Yes this is true. Though far better to use 4G for now during the current crisis.
