Had enough of O2 service guru's etc. how do I cancel/get out of my contract

The normal way is to provide 30 days notice by calling customer services and letting them know your leaving....remember to get a PAC if you want to take your number to another network.

 

Also, if you are still in contract, you will need to pay an early termination fee - months remaining X line rental

There's no get out as such, the contract has to be settled. If it's a refresh then you pay off the device and simply cancel the airtime.

Why does no one in the Huddersfield shop ever answer the phone? I have rung continuously for more than 20 minutes on several occasions with no success - rubbish customer service.

Phone shops rarely pick up their phones.....they know its going to be a customer complaining or another store asking for stock!
