My wife and I have 2 sepearate contracts and pay 2 seperate bills for our mobiles, are we eligable for discount?

You need to apply for family plan discount but it must be done within 28 days of starting a new contract or upgrading https://www.o2.co.uk/family-plan

There may be other options available to you in the link given by jonsie above, but in general, all discounts must be applied for within 28 days.
