As everyone on a monthly contracts I have an allowance on text messages.
My son just started secondary school where teachers communicate with parents sending text messages from mobile "stationary" phone.
How is it possible that every time I reply to the message I get extra charged?
Shouldn't it go from my free text messages allowance?
I am not happy with it as my bill will get bigger from week to week!

We can use email too. Is that not an option for you?

Hi @Pawel

When you reply to the school texts, is it a 'short code' ? (By short code, I mean 5 digits long.)

If so you will be charged for those..

Free texts are only normal texts sent within your allocated allowances.

Our school uses ParentMail which costs 6p per text, so if this is a problem you need to get the school to change to a different system.

No, it's not a short code number.
It's normal 11 didgit number 076#########, that's why I'm confused.

It looks as if it's a similar system to the one mentioned by @MI5 then?

I can't see why you would be charged for texting a normal phone number.

How much does the text cost out of interest?

Bit of a nerve for the school to use them then? I would be asking for my money back!!

You'd have thought the parents would have been told though?

I wouldn't know. We didn't have this sort of fancy texting malarky when my lads were at school.

My grandson was at Higham and not sure it was in the system then?

Either way, parents shouldn't be charged. Blumming cheek if honest. Evil

My point is that we were told and given all the details so it's up to the parents if they want to use it or not.
Email is also a free option at HLS.
