Can anyone tell me why I had to buy a £10 top up when I bought my new phone. I'm on a monthly payment so what good is that to me ? The lady said she could not sell me the phone without the top up ? Doesn't make any sense to me at all. So I've got a £10 SIM card that's no good to me.

We did buy the phones outright and she knew we were on a monthly contract but still insisted on us taking the £10 SIM.

What is CPW please ?

CPW is carphone warehouse

You are certainly right to make a complaint as it's ridiculous to have to buy top ups on a contract. Before making the complaint call customer service to see if they will make a goodwill gesture to your account

Is there anything you can do for the OP @Marjo and @Martin-O2 or at least feed this back. Stores really need to change this business policy!

Hi @Mags1

I must say "you learn a little every day" I am astonished.

How absolutely ridiculous, they wouldn't have got that out of me ~ I would have left the shop.

I bought my phone from the Samsung Shop in town sim free of course.

You can purchase phones from Lewis's and Argos and other places directly.

I really do hope that o2 refund you the money you were unnecessarily charged ~ still unbelievable.

Best wishes TallTrees

Buy SIM free is the way to go which would have worked equally as well - you don't need to buy any replacement handset from O2 simply because you have a contract with O2 - as long as your device plan is paid you can put your SIM in any phone that is unlocked or SIM free.

Just so @djbsuffolk
They Probably think we are in o2 - so go there👎
Needs consideration beforehand.
What's your opinion about the following?
Hey @Mags1
Could you buy an o2 PAYGO sim and use it in second sim holder then use the top ups use different number obviously for texts data etc until used up. Classic PAYGO sim is very good. Order from customer services get it sent.
May even get a free fiver on top on each too. Provided the phones have two sim holders.
If can't get money refunded this may be an option
Best wishes TallTrees
