Can anyone tell me why I had to buy a £10 top up when I bought my new phone. I'm on a monthly payment so what good is that to me ? The lady said she could not sell me the phone without the top up ? Doesn't make any sense to me at all. So I've got a £10 SIM card that's no good to me.

They are supposed to waive the top up if they know you have a monthly contract. Obviously they prefer the sales but personally I would have bought the phone online from a third party.

To be far all the networks an retailers like CPW want you to buy a top up when buying a phone.

@Mags1

If you buy a phone outright from O2, they presume it will be PAYG, hence the reason for the PAYG sim which they requested you top up. It's an antiquated method actually and should no longer be part of the purchase.

You would have been better buying from CPW.

@Mags1

You could have chosen to buy outright and not on PAYG at all.

Mind you, the store should have told you this.

I'd raise a complaint and you'll probably get your money refunded to your contract account.

Hi. I bought the phone outright but was told I had to buy the £10 SIM with it even though she knew we were on monthly contract. It just makes no sense to me. I think I will take your advice and raise a complaint. We actually bought 2 phones so that was £20 out of pocket.
