Don't buy phone insurance from O2

Smiley FrustratedThis is a bit of a surprise but don't buy phone insurance from O2. My phone replacement is taking at least two weeks with no end in sightDestroy

The whole point of insurance from your phone company is fast replacement.

I recommend a third party insurer now, or get insurance via your bank.

The best part of this scam is if you usually need to start insurance within weeks of getting your new phone. By the time, you discover that the insurance is rubbish, it might be too late....

Here are the details:

I pay £10 a month for the "O2 Premier Plus Insurance" and dropped my phone, cracking the screen.

I phoned O2 reporting the damage, and two weeks later I still don't have a replacement phone with no date in sight. It is not as if my phone (Galaxy Note 3) is out of stock or anything.... It apparently just takes this long!

The whole thing has been an endless series of delays. They took several days to organise a pick up (because of "our current back log"), the courier didn't turn up on the day, and now complete silence.

Beware!

Hi

I'm sure it's not a scam.

We always suggest home insurance or bank account cover as the networks and 3rd party premiums and excess fees mixed in with T&C can hinder claims.

That fits in with some other reports we've had - Not a very good service at all 😞

O2 insurance is in my opinion overpriced and only as good as the ease of claiming. Unfortunately all insurance companies have so many t&c with so many criteria that claims are sometimes as stressful as damaging or losing the phone. Good luck and I hope it's sorted soon.

And if you shop around you can find insurance much cheaper with less excess...and a faster turnaround.

It's no surprise at all. It's not your fault, but had you searched the forum prior to taking O2's insurance you might have avoided this situation. Hope you get your phone fixed.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Ease of claiming is only good if you get a replacement phone quickly.

What is the use of not disputing my claim if it takes weeks to get me a new phone. It is not as if they are not billing me in the meantime!

Really O2 has zero incentive to have a fast turnaround on this.

I would complain but I don't see what good complaining to O2 does.

To be fair, their staff are very nice but what can they do if the replacement procedure takes weeks and weeks...

I have no dispute with O2. It is just that their "premium"!! insurance is completely rubbish.

Hope these posts mean that others are not caught in the same trap
