Do o2 lock their phones to their network

Hi I’m looking to upgrade my sons phone but wondering if he’s locked to o2 if we change the phone to a different sim

O2 phones are not locked normally.

Should you happen to get one that is, it is free to unlock anyway Guide: Unlocking an O2 phone to use a different SIM card

Thank you so much for the help I can order an upgrade now for my daughter to have for Christmas as she’s on a sim only plan which I want to keep as cheap as possible
