Do I have to pay off my 12m Sim Only deal?

Last month I changed my tariff to a 12 months Sim Only deal as my contract had ended and at the time I didn't need a new device. However my phone has now broken. Can I upgrade my phone to a new device and airtime plan without having to pay off the 12 month Sim Only deal or would I be forced to stay on the Sim Only deal for the remaining 11 months? Obviously due to the current situation I can't really afford to be without a phone, but also can't afford to pay the £30 a month Sim Only deal plus another £30 a month device and airtime plan. Thanks.

Any customer who was previously on refresh and subsequently moved to a SIM only deal can upgrade to another refresh contract at anytime without penalty.

Your MyO2 should say you can upgrade now.

Normally it's 3 months on a sim only deal before you can upgrade. https://www.o2.co.uk/termsandconditions/mobile/sim-only-upgrade-to-refresh-after-3-months-terms-and-...

However, as you have had a contract before it's worth giving O2 a call Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support

On the MyO2 app it does currently say I can upgrade now. Just wanted to try and double check there would be no nasty surprises. Thank you.
