If your bill hasn't been paid they will have charged you for the remainder of your contract.

As steersy says you need to ring them and get it sorted out.

You've been disconnected for 40 days? Sounds like you have been charged for your full minimum term. Have you not contacted O2 previously to discuss the non-payment?

Is this disconnection an error or is it the result of a request on your part?

If this is something you requested and you were still within the minimum period, were you advised of early termination fees?

Normally, if you call to close your account while in contract, the system will warn of the possibility of an early termination fee and once put through, the advisor will remind you of the same.

If this didn't happen and you can show you were never advised of an early termination fee, you may still be able to do something about this but bare in mind, it may well be in your contract, something like this:

8.2 This Agreement may be ended either by you or us giving at least 30 days’ notice. You must pay all Charges incurred during the Agreement.

8.3 If this Agreement is ended during the Minimum Period, you must pay the monthly subscription charges up to the end of the Minimum Period. This does not apply if you end the Agreement for the reasons in paragraph 8.4.

Your contract may be worded a little different but will be pretty much the same.

If the disconnection was without your knowledge or prior warning, could you tell us more please?

And to add....

If you don't sort this they will show this as a default on your credit rating resulting in difficulty in getting anything else on credit for i think 5 years , and eventually sell the debt to a collection agency.
