Destroyed pay monthly phone and want to switch to PAYG

I completely destroyed my very old, but workable, phone. I managed to rescue my micro SIM & SD cards. I don't have another phone to put it in and don't want to spend any money on a new one at this time. I'd rather buy a new one after a touchy-feely session once the shops reopen.  Is there any way to swap my monthly contract to a PAYG so that I can keep my number? I can't get through on the phone to find out.

@Ronzo

Go to myO2 and see if you can change to pay as you go.
If it isn't possible phone the customer service for help.
The best time to call is 8am and try the number ending with 4005 in the link given

@Ronzo You can only do it by calling customer service Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

@Ronzo Be aware that switching to Pay & Go would still require you to pay the remainder of what you owe on your contract.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2
