Hi
The phone maybe using data in the background, you can view how much data is being used be different apps and can disable background data usage:
Andriod:
Settings > mobile network > data usage
iPhone:
Settings > Mobile Data > scroll down to view
The instructions may vary slightly depending on the model of the deivce, for a longterm solution as you maybe able to increase your tariff and gain more data per month for less then what you are paying for the top- up bolton but the tariff will not change until your next billing date and this can be done via the MyO2 app
