Data roaming speeds USA

Hi all,

I went on holiday to New York about 18months ago and whilst I was there I was able to use 02 data roaming without charge which was good cos I play Pokemon Go a lot. However, when I tried to play it it was hardly worth it because the download speed was so slow so it wouldn't work well off Wi Fi.

Does anyone know if the download speed has improved since then or is it still the same as I want to catch some regional Pokemon over there like the sad case I am lol

Cheers.

Hi @MattUK2020

From what we have heard on here it hasn't changed at all. It's slow and virtually unusable.

Three, EE and Vodafone are said to be better.
However many people, if their phone is unlocked, use a local sim from AT&T or T Mobile. These can be bought virtually anywhere in the US.

If your phone is locked then use this guide to unlock. Guide: Unlocking an O2 phone to use a different SIM card

Hope that helps and welcome to the forum Welcome

@MattUK2020

It's no better now and it never will be.

O2 buy the cheapest possible roaming packages with very limited bandwidth and capped data speeds at 0.5mbps.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

@MattUK2020  Your download speed using your O2 data would have nothing to do with the speed you're getting over WiFi. If you were still running slow using WiFi you need to find a connection to a faster local WiFi router.

If you did want to use mobile data, you'll need to find a local network Pay & Go sim, as @Cleoriff has suggested, but buying one would depend on how long you were planning to be in the US. It's not really worth the cost if you're only planning to be in the US for a short period of time.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Hello

Thanks everyone for your replies, looks like I will need to look into getting a cheap SIM card whilst over there as the network speeds will be very slow.

Matthew.
