Packet data has been turned off, as is mobile roaming. am using the internet via my brothers wifi.  i thought there would be no charge for this. just had a txt from O2 that using the web outside europe costs 6 quid per mb. if the phone has registrered on a usa network that is just the usual warning text about costs.

If you are only using wifi then it will be free.

You automatically get those texts as soon as you connect to any overseas networks. As long as you have mobile/cellular data and roaming data switched off there will be no charges.
