Data block abroad?

I have a monthly O2 contract using an iPhone5s. Everything works fine in the UK.

I have just spent a week in Portugal and 1) could not send a text. 2)could not access the internet...message "not subscribed to a data...(or something like that)". Made a phone call to the UK OK but I did get a message "call assist" or similar.

Is this a problem for O2 to sort out or was I doing something wrong? I only go abroad a couple of times a year and would like to know the phone will work the same as in the UK ie download e-mails, send texts and check the weather etc

It sounds like you have the wrong data bolt on. Call customer service and ask them to put you on idata.

Thanks.

My account info does not give much information.

The "Help Girl" link was not responding so presume she only answers during office hours.

It's far better to call. Also ask them to check there is no roaming bar on your account. It is important that the adviser knows to check what data bolt on you have. After an upgrade or tariff change oe even on a new account, for some reason the standard bolt on is Blackberry, useless for iphones.

Most definitely the wrong data bolt on. You need idata on your account.
If not, you need to change your data apn to “mobile.o2.co.uk”
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
