I have recently switched to an Xperia 1 ii.
Yesterday I attached it to my car with a USB cable to recharge it.
To my surprise I found that I could now use my phone using the car's audio system, for example I could access my Spotify playlist from the car's contol panel and hear them through the car's audio.
I can see myself using this a lot BUT if Iam using Spotify whilst travelling in my car away from wi-fi am I using my data allowance? (I suspect so). Does anybody have a rough idea of what, say, an hour of Spotify listening would use in data?
Similarly when I connected the cable I could use Google Maps on the car system, does this use my data allowance?
Thanks
Martin Smith

Yes it uses your data.
Spotify is on average 40mb per hour but you can change the streaming quality in Spotify settings.

Thanks MI5
So it looks like 1 5Gb plan would give me about 125 hours a month or 4 hours a day
Do you happen to know Google Maps data usage?
Thank you

You can download Google maps to your phone so it uses no data at all.
Any traffic updates are negligible.

@Smudgelent The reason you can now do this in your car is because you either have Android Auto or Apple Car Play, depending on whichever phone you have.
