Data Roaming in Italy? Apparently it's no longer in Europe...

I flew to Italy yesterday and since I landed I've become a bit baffled with regards to the roaming charges. According to the o2 website I should be getting charged £1.99 a day for 25 mb of data.

This was confirmed for me when I landed and recieved this message when I turned my phone on...

However a few hours later I recieved these messages which both confused me and annoyed me...

£20 ******* quid?? Outside Europe?? What the...??

I was standing on the Leaning Tower of Pisa when I turned my data on. Is the Tower now leaning so far it's considered "outside Europe"??

Any ideas?

Further details:

I'm on o2's Simplicity plan using an iPhone 4. No charges have appeared on my online bill or My o2 app on my iPhone (couldn't see anything about roaming charges at all - neither the £1.99 nor the odd supposed £20 outside).

I got the same when I was in Slovenia and Hungary recently so O2 clearly don't know what countries are in and out of Europe. Maybe anywhere outside of Spain is not in Europe or maybe they know something we don't Smiley Happy ?

Maybe it's because the Lady loves Milk Tray.

Leave your candy-colored cans in the toy chest and try a pair of proper headphones.

It also doesn't state on the first one that there is a time limit of 60 minutes I think that should be on the text its not really right to say receiving a call is 50p then free like at home because at home you don't have a 60 minute cap but this problem of it reporting being out of Europe really needs sorting or o2 will have to issuing a lot of credits

I think they send you all information in case you have opted out of O2 Travel.

That may be right Jonsie but it doesn't explain the second text you've used £20 as that should never have happened

I wouldn't worry abouyt it too much, looks like o2 have got their messages muddled up. You have the o2 travel message which will mean you'll be on it, the other ones look like mistakes. If in doubt give customer service a call on 202, that's free to do from your phone whilst abroad Smiley Happy.
