I had a 24 month contract and came travelling. Got phone unlocked so could use foreign sim but still effectively renting the phone (which I knew I'd have to when I left home- my choice). The contract officially ended in January, it's now September. How do I go about stopping the payments as technically no longer in contract. But could I keep the number for when I return in 8 months also?

Hi,

When your contract term ended it would have dropped onto a 30 day rolling contract.

An option if you no longer require a monthly tariff at all then ring Customer Services on 202 and give them 30 days notice to cancel that, and at the same time ask them to transfer your mobile number and account into a pay as you go.

o2 will then send you your final bill which after you pay then you will recieve a zero bill.

After the zero bill you can if you wish cancel any bank direct debit.

This means you keep the number and as long as you make a call every 6 months it will remain live.

The transfer can take from 2 hours approx up to 24 hours to fully activate.

You can transfer back to a Monthly Contract when it suits you.
