My contract is due to end in a fortnight and I do not wish to renew and I’m probably just going to get a pay as you go Giffgaff and save myself a whole lot of money. I still have a few months left on my Apple Watch and o2 say I must stay on contract with them ? Is this the case ? Will I never be able to use the watch without being in contract ? Sorry if I’m asking silly questions

If you cancel your phone you need to cancel the watch too, which will mean paying off what you owe on it.
Or just leave the phone airtime running until the watch is paid off.
Your watch won't work on giffgaff either apart from on Bluetooth. No cellular functions.

Thanks very much for getting back to me. Ok so even if I pay off the remaining balance on my watch it still won’t work without an active contract on o2? So I need to permanently be in contract ? What a pain!!

Only on a network that supports Apple watch which giffgaff does not as yet.
