Yes you will need to cancel the direct debit yourself which you can usually do by online banking.
However a word of caution, do not cancel the direct debit before you get a zero bill.
Cancelling the direct debit will not by itself end your contract. You need to call O2 and give 30 days notice so do that on your billing date this month.Read through this link.
