Hi,

I am the bill payer for my son,s O2 Account. This contract is coming to an end on the 04/06/23 and I will be ending this. I have my own account with O2 and the bills aren,t getting any cheaper!!

He wants to get a new Sim Card Only deal and has been looking around for the best deals available. There is one on Moneysupermarket, with O2 and this beat any deal thaey are offering ATM.

Would he be best choosing this deal 30days before the 4th June? While during this time I,m cancelling his current contract..this way I would not ask for a PAC code (he wants to keep original number). He will be taking this Sim Deal in his own name, his first mobile contract...one less bill I,ll have to pay..lol.

Come November, I,ll be doing the same, Sim-Only deal.

Cheers.

Hi,

Cheers for the link.

This will be his first contract..has never took any credit out but has a bank account. Will O2 port his number even if he,s getting a better deal outside O2?

So in short..I can close account down within 30 days but he can only port his number from the 04/06/23?

Have just read that texting for the PAC Code, you don,t even have to contact current provider, so my son could get the new deal off O2 via moneysupermarket, then send for PAC code a day before 4th June, then I can cancel the contract..Simple.😊

Cheers.

@Gerrymac66

You don't use a PAC if you're staying with O2. You just need to migrate the number as per the info in link I gave you.

Your son should apply for his own contract and see if he is accepted. If so, you can then migrate the number which will close the old contract automatically.

No notice period is required but the closer to 04/06 you do it, the less you will pay in early termination fees.

To avoid an early payment charge he won't be able to migrate his number until 04/06.

There's no need to give 30 days notice as O2 will migrate the number to the new contract immediately.

Guide: Migration & porting into O2

Bear in mind that your son will need to pass a credit check to obtain the sim only from O2 in the first place.

@Gerrymac66 If your son has no credit history it's unlikely that he will pass the credit check. You shouldn't close the current O2 account until you're sure.

I believe he would be able to find out what his credit rating is here:

Hi,

His phone contract is in my name. He has turned 18 and has a part-time job so he,ll be paying his own bill from now on lol.

@Gerrymac66 If the new contract is staying in your name but he's paying for it there won't be any problems. If you're trying to set up a new contract in his name it won't happen.
