Continuous loss of signal

I was wondering If I could get some advice on a problem I have.

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and I'm on a pay monthly simplicity. Every day, about 10-20 times (it varies), my phone loses signal (both 2g and 3g) for about 5-10 seconds. Normally when I am trying to load something, twitter or facebook etc. It gets quite frustrating as it crashes my phone and I have to restart it. I'm pretty sure this is a phone issue rather than a network or sim card issue, would I be correct in thinking that?
I'm due to upgrade now to a phone contract and will be doing so shortly. I'll get a new phone and new sim card so the problem should be sorted.

But one other question I had: I've been on O2 for about 8 years now (can't believe it's been that long!) and I've had the same number for the whole time, transferring it every time I get a new phone. Is there any way that having such an old number could affect my coverage? Or will it not make any difference? This maybe a very stupid question, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have the same issue with a new phone!

Thank you! slight_smile

Hi,

The usual ways to resolve such an issue would be firstly to check the Service Status in your area here http://status.o2.co.uk/ , and if the status is Ok then to think about giving your sim card a clean, and or replace it by performing a sim swap after obtaining a blank sim card from 02.

Depending on how "soon" this is then its up to you bearing in mind a sim swap takes from around 2 hours to approx 24 hour hours to fully activate.

The use of the same mobile telephone number IMO will be be the cause of your intermittent service.

The phone itself may be at fault regarding the APN settings  http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=Companion,question=ref%28User%29:str%28Mob... , within or the hardware itself which could be looked at by an appropriate engineer.

Lastly the only stupid question is the one not asked in the first place !   wink

I've had the same phone number since 1995. The number itself would make no difference.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Thank you very much for your help.

The coverage in my area is really good, and I've tried cleaning the sim as best as I could. Still the same thing happens. I'll be upgrading as soon as I get the chance to **bleep** down to my local O2 shop (in a couple of days), so I don't think it is worth changing the sim.

I thought the number might have something to do with it, it's a shame as I've had it so long I can't remember how many people I've given it out to! But I'll be sure to keep the new number I'm given on the new contract!

Thanks again! slight_smile

You can't say n i p here!!! slight_smile

Have you tried a new sim as your could be getting on a bit if you've been with O2 that long?

They'll replace it free and you will keep the same number.
