Charged for premium rate texts

Hi,

sorry to hijack but i can't start my own thread for some reason. I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I signed up for an o2 contract last year which gave me certain amounts of calls, texts and data usage for a total of £21.50 per month.

I haven't been keeping track of my bills to be honest but noticed i'd been charged nearly 55 quid for last month's bill. I spoke to one of o2's online advisors about it and they explained it was for the receipt of premium rate text messages.

Now, i have never opened one of these texts - they are always deleted before being read. I have never asked to receice these texts and i do not know who sends them. The o2 advisor told me they are from a ringtone company. I have never had any contact with any ringtone company on any phone and i don't know how they even got my number.

I asked the advisor if they could stop the company charging me every month for these texts, or better still stop the texts altogether and they told me they couldn't do that. I signed up for a £21.50 contract and am paying nearly three times this amount and o2 are doing nothing to stop it!

Any advice please???

It is your responsibility to sort this out, contact PhonePay Plus and report it to them and you should be able to claim back the costs.

Hi Tommy34, and a warm Welcome to the Community Forum,

It is frustrating when something like this happens and following the advice to stop these types of texts, then these charges should stop.

Another alternative is that O2 will change your mobile number by request which is free for the first time.

Take care.
