Changing phone number from different accounts

My current number I use is from a monthly contract under my Dad's name, and I've set up a new monthly contract under my own name - how would I go about carrying the number I had before onto this new one? The guides I can find don't help because technically the phone number is going between two different people, not between two accounts I personally hold. Would I use a PAC or STAC code? How would I do this?

Just call to migrate your number.

Your dad will need to be present to give permission.

Guide: Migration & porting into O2

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Do I need to have put the new sim in my phone and 'activated' it, so to speak, before I do so? Or does it not matter?

Your new sim should be activated already with a different number so you can use that until you migrate your number.
