Changes to Data allowance policy

Hi all,

 

Just a quick message to let you know that O2 have changed their policy when you use up your data allowance.

 

Under the old system once you had used up your allowance, I believe your connection would be throttled to 15kbps. With effect from the 11th November, if you use up your allowance then you can not use your data connection at all until your next bill date unless you buy more data.

 

This change has caught me out, so I thought it best to warn other customers. Please note the FAQ's on the mobile website (m.o2.co.uk/support/paymonthly/usealldata) still suggest your data connection will be slowed - from experience I can confirm this does not happen!

 

Edit - I received this information from Raj on O2 customer support via O2 chat - he said that they will be updating their website shortly as I explained the current site still refers to data being slowed down. I only spotted the change and queried it because I received the following message when connecting to the bbc website from a redirect to www.o2.co.uk/data-allowance

I agree too, very bad move. My kids always used to use up their data and could at least still iMessage or use whatsapp, but now it's a bolt on or nothing.....

Just re affirming the info jonsie if that's ok , and hopefully highlighting the importance of taking note of the Terms and Conditions which we have all said here is an important thing to do before committing to a contract.

How are they not clear.

If indeed they are not then they should be challenged.

The thread I pasted in regarding this has an extract that was highlighted by adamtemp64 advising of the data stance by O2.

Exactly!

Head honcho gets up in the morning, rolls a dice, if he gets a six he rolls again, anything else and thats the "T&C" were using for the day regarding data allowance.

 

Those have got to be the worst T&C's ive seen, theyre playing russian roulette with thier customer base!

    • impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed;
    • remove the Bolt On from your account;
    • impose further charges;
    • disconnect your SIM Card at any time, having attempted to contact you first; and/or
    • remove your ability to use data on your SIM Card.

  1. @Band of brothers. I dont think you get the situation, the T&C's might state those 5 terms that allow 02 to basically do what they want after we reach our data limits.
  2.  The HUGE issue is that on their most CURRENT release of the MY02 app, which is on the majority of 02 smart phone users phone, which shows us our data allowance, bills, usage, phone usage, message usage, allows us to contact live chat support and a whole lot more - This APP states that DATA will be SLOWED not stopped on both the data info screen and the Help section of the app.

IF that is not misleading or contradictory to the T&C's stated then im a giant tangerine with no arms and im typing using my mouth and a giant stick i found in the garden!
