I've changed my O2 contract (online) to a SIM only pay monthly one and arranged the direct debit. Do I need to cancel the old DD, it will O2 just change the amount paid?

No need to cancel, it will just be replaced.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
