Cannot access Voicemail on PAYG

I have a pay and go phone and I cannot access the voicemail on it.  I just get a recorded message asking me to enter the mobile number followed by the #, but it just tells that the number isn't valid.  I've checked it and checked it and know it's right.

Can anyone help?  I've noticed that you lose credit calling the voicemail too, not happy about that!

You just dial 901 to access voicemail.
