I have a sim only a/c which has not been used, the phone I bought is faulty, I cannot get to talk to anyone, have returned the SIM but still getting messages on the app re payment date, upgrades etc. I have written to O2 on the hope they will cancel, I do have another Sim only account.

You need to cancel correctly and pay off any remaining period of the contract, returning the sim card doesnt cancel it especially outside of 14days.
