i cancelled my contract within 14 days.. however i received a bill for £40.64.
Then i received a disconnected bill of £8.24
in the disconnected bill it says..

what does this bill mean.. i cant understand it? do i stll need to pay the 40.64

No i believe you only have to pay the £8.24
The £40.64 looks like your upfront line rental (full month) and the £32.40 looks like a pro-rata credit for the days you haven't used it. The £8.24 essentially is just the line rental for the days the handset and sim were used.
I don't normally get involved with billing however thats how i read it!!

Amount due is for usage charges only and you only need to pay £8.24.

Yes @Anonymous has it spot on. £8.24 is your bill which is just for the usage prior to your cancellation.
