I can't get through to speak to anyone!! I was told I could upgrade in April but to do it online it wants me to pay - I was promised a free early upgrade in April - what should I do ?! My phone is almost completely broken, help!

Sadly, buddy, I cannot help you on this one. I have been without data for a week now. You can try Twitter, Facebook and email and all these channels they are unresponsive too as well. I have called twice a day for the last 6 days and every time I do the security it stops with 'No one is available'
I can only recommend the following; do you have IN WRITING the promise to a free early upgrade? If so, take the upgrade and then upon receipt of the invoice, send them the proof to them and say 'I needed a new phone, I was promised this, I am available to talk'
