Can I use a foreign sim in a contract phone?

If I have a device and airtime plan with O2, will I be able to use a foreign sim in my device or will it be locked? (Apple device)

O2 haven't locked phones since 2018. Using a local sim is advice we offer when people are abroad. Try a local PAYG sim.
