No I'm afraid not. To my knowledge O2 will only put a contract on hold for military personnel who are off to war.
Is there any way a family member you trust could take the contract over for you?
If not then settling your existing contract yourself...or continuing to pay are your only options.
If you were on a sim only contract you could reduce to a 30 day one...
