Hi,
I had a Samsung gts 5230 with payg sim for a long while.
I recently bought a Samsung Gt 19505, and the guy in the shop sliced my old sim into
a smaller micro sim which did not work after many attempts, so I put a new O2 sim card (spliced again) and
my new phone now works with a new number. Try as I may I put my original sim back in my old phone, inside the cut out base but
all I get is Limited Service, unable to make any calls, I had only recently topped it up.
I would prefer my old number on my new phone, but would be happy to have my old phone number on my old phone to keep all my contacts, (I have become attached to my old number)

Thank you Damien1, that seems very straight forward and easy to do, much appreciated.

Were your contacts stored on your sim? If so, you probably won't be able to retrieve them if the card doesn't work any more. Hopefully you had your contacts backed up on Gmail. If you did you could transfer them to your new phone without waiting to have your old number put on a new sim card.
