Can I backup my text messages to a computer in some way or see them on the O2 website?

Not applicable

I particularly want to keep a note of dates and times of messages rather than the content itself.

I can't find anything anywherer else on this. Can anyuone point me in a direction?

Is this something I can do to my O2 service or do I need something to happen on my phone?

If you have an android phone there is an app called SMS Back Up that will back up your texts and they can be sent to your Google account for safe keeping.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
