I have the international bolt on, purchased to call aging family in the USA. The calls don't go through. I have tried +1 area code and number, 00 1 area code and number and the response is the same: dial the number press call and the phone reverts to that persons contact information.
I have spent two hours on two different days trying to iron this out with O2 with no luck. It works once or twice then fails again, repeatedly. . .

Do you have a Spend Cap in place, @TMCollins? Or an International calling bar? Or is your phone set to use WiFi calling at home? You can check all of these in your MyO2, or in the handset itself for WiFi calling.
If you are connected to a good O2 signal, calling US landline numbers, no reason it should not work - calls to non-geographic numbers may fail, and if mobile-to-mobile, that may be prone to error if the US handset is out of range. Also have you tried using WhatsApp for your US family members with mobiles? Calls are free, but both parties need to be using the app.
If O2 are not understanding you, try either of the two links below for the Social Media Team - and be persistent until an agent connects with you. Good luck!

@TMCollins Just to add to the good advice from @pgn, if you use WhatsApp to call a WhatsApp number in the US, it's free if you call over a Wi-Fi connection. You can text and video call for free as well.
