Calling 0800 numbers in France

We had a breakdown whilst using a hire car in France. Hertz had supplied a (France) 0800 breakdown number to call. However, I found that my O2 phone would not connect to it, regardless of whether we added the country code etc. I also tried calling Hertz UK. However, as that was also an 0800 number it would not connect from France.

Thankfully, someone walking past let me use their phone, but otherwise we could have been stuck.

What is the correct way of connecting to 0800 numbers whilst in other countries?

Some numbers will let you put the country code for the country you are in before the 0800, others not so. As you have data, I would have Googled for a local number in France for Hertz, or ditto for UK.

The website Saynoto0870.com sometimes lists local UK geographical numbers for 0800 (as well as 0870) numbers.

https://www.saynoto0870.com/companysearch.php and look for Hertz.

Good luck, @cityhill

Did you format it as +44800 rather than 0800?

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

A French Freephone number has to be started +33 800  and then the rest of the number..

I tried all the combinations of +33 800 for France and +44 800 for the UJ, plus searching for non-Freephone alternatives, all without success.

Some countries do have issues with toll free numbers from Roaming phones, there are contact numbers on the French hertz site https://hertz.fr which are not freephone..
