Buying the US variant of the Samsung Galazy s7 for use in the UK

Anonymous

Hi guys,

As the titles states, I'm looking to buy the US variant of the Samsung Galaxy S7. This is because only the US variant has the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC which is easier to develop roms for. The UK version has the exynos which is closed source and receives hardly any development.

If I were to buy the US version, would it work here in the UK with a uk o2 sim card?

Thanks

@Anonymous You are mistaken. Your phone insurance will not cover you. If your phone breaks, who would they send it to for repair? They would send it to Samsung and they would refuse to repair it because the phone wasn't purchased in the UK.

cheers mi5. Had a look at bestbuy, but they all list carrier specific models. No generic s7 edge.

best buy s7

Also I have no idea if they lock their bootloaders. Gosh this was a lot easier with all my nexus phones!

@Anonymous Are you planning on going to the US to buy the phone? If not, and you are planning to have it shipped here, also be aware that you will be paying import duty.

Samsung ain't your best choice these days for a dev tool - too many restrictions in the firmware.
Bootloaders aren't locked but you've got knox to deal with.

viridis - neither of those 2 phones support 3g 1800

bambino - that's true. I guess it's a trade off, because I see no point in an android phone I can't mod, but at the same time I love the sound of the s7 edge. It'd be my first non nexus android

mi5 - I heard tripping knox doesn't really do anything besides disable samsung pay

and warranty, but that may not be an issue anyway.
