I have an active Bolton from 2023. Why did my 4gb data plan stop working today if I already had this active Bolton?

I do not understand the question - did you have a bolton that gave you more data? Did that bolton have an expiry date (eg was it a promotional bolton that was valid for 3 or 6 months?)?
If your contracted data volume is insufficient for your needs, you should look at flexing your tariff up, @Roypp - Guide: How does O2 Refresh work? and https://www.o2.co.uk/refresh/flexible-tariffs may help.
Take a look in your MyO2 and see if your bolton has definitely ceased/expired before you call O2 Guide: How to find help & contact O2 to get them to look at it for you and rectify.
The example below shows how an extra data bolton looks in your MyO2 Boltons view - that one was a 24-month one, good for the full duration of a contract, but sometimes you can get a 3-month or a 6-month boost... and sometimes they do disappear, I have had that happen to me once, O2 re-instated the missing bolton as soon as I called them and they could not explain why it had suddenly disappeared.
Good luck!
