Blocked numbers

I had a number that a lot of people knew so I decided to change it. I asked O2 for me to keep my sim and change my number. Everything went perfectly. Almost a year down the line a blocked person was still able to get through to me on WhatsApp. How did they get to know my new number ?

At a guess, someone gave it to them @Help17 ?
