Billing for picture messages when a text is sent to more than one person.

Hi,

I just called O2 billing department and got absolutely no help. All I was told is, yes you will be charged for these.

Anyway, hopefully I’ll get response here.

I moved from Three mobile to O2 last month and I’ve done the following before on Three and using the same mobile (I use a Windows Mobile) without any extra charges.

In my o2 bill, I can see picture message charges, whenever I send a text to 2 people at the same time. So, 1 text to 2 numbers (which I know becomes 2 texts), O2 thinks it’s 2 picture messages.

Any idea what’s going on?

Many thanks,

Dilshan

It's mostly down to how your phone handles the conversion. Some of those settings may be selectable on your device, but others not.

It looks as if the op has been charged for Group Messaging as shown in the link above?

Yeah but it must be the way the handset is dealing with it as O2 allow up to 5 recipients.

Hi all,

Yes, so this to me is a bug on the O2 system and here is why I’m saying that..

- I’ve done exactly the same thing when I was with Three Mobile.

- Same phone, same settings, same phone OS, basically same everything.

- The only change is, now I’m with O2.

Just to clarify, if I send 2 plain text messages (just simple plain text) to 2 recipients, I see 2 entries in the bill.

Example...

Entry 1     23 Nov, 09:35, number 1, Picture message, £0.416

Entry 2     23 Nov, 09:35, number 2, Picture message, £0.416

But this should be just 2 text messages rather than picture messages.

I’ve been with Three for years and I never had this problem and I’m using the exact same phone (Windows Mobile 10).

Many thanks.

Yep, must be an account issue. Doesn't do that for me on Android.
