Was the payment due to be taken by Direct Debit, as they do retry it and they can't be stopped once processing has started.
You can request a refund from Customer Services once the payment has been processed.

@Deirdre1 Hi, If you have online or phone banking you can normally still stop a direct debit the same day before the end of business. This will stop payment today, but you will have to reset the direct debit back up for future payments.
