Hi

I'd be grateful for any help and advice please.

My daughter has just arrived in Uganda and is getting a local sim to be able to keep in contact with her local hosts.

What's the cheapest way for me to keep in contact with her? Her wifi I believe is intermitent and I'd like to keep in touch by text and with the odd phone call. She's away for 4 weeks. I tried to download an O2 World app but that doesnt seem to exist and I dont understand the International sim as what happens to my usual pay monthly allowance?

Thank you

Hi @Jamlagoon

You could text her UK number for free but if you are texting a Ugandan sim it is 35p per text or £2.00 per min to call.

Using Whatsapp on Wifi for calling at pre determined times would be cheapest.

@Jamlagoon You should both install WhatsApp. If your daughter can find a good WiFi point, you can talk and text and even video call for free. If you have iPhones you can use FaceTime in the same way. There's also Facebook messenger and Skype. Many ways to keep in touch for free.

@Jamlagoon Whatsapp is great, but your daughter needs to have it on her phone as well, and she needs to associate the app with the local Ugandan sim while she's there, and send that to you over WiFi.
