Are O2 so desperate for cash that they fib?

Anonymous

Switched over to 4G slight_smile  Then got text from 2030 inviting me to call 08448090202 for FREE to set up WAP MMS. It was working anyway so I didn't call. It looks like calls to this number are 5p per min. Most definately NOT FREE if thats the case. So, are O2 fibbing to con punters to phone them up?

Just dial 202 from your contract phone which is completely free.
Many 08 numbers are all chargeable from o2 mobiles at the moment but are due to change next year.

It's just saying to call CS for data settings, but quite an old out of date text using the word WAP !!

Sorry, didnt say that I am reasonable technically minded! I wouldn't usually have to call them. Just found it odd to recieve a text that wasn't from 2020 or O2. Checked out the num and its a pay per min NOT free as quoted in the text! But thanks everyone.

The number is now 0344 8090202 which is a free call from any tariff minutes - So the text message needs a major overhaul wink

Yes I agree.

The very reason I've flagged it to Toby to feed this information back officially.

It made sense to include the new number on the thread for anyone else searching the number.

Calling 08448090202 IS free from an o2 contract mobile although you may still get the message about being charged.

Following a European ruling all non financial firms have had to replace these numbers with 01 / 02 / 03 numbers which can be called issuing your inclusive minutes.

The 5p per minute relates to calling from a bt landline.
