Apple watch cellular with O2 sim only

I have a 12 month sim only contract that I use on my iphone with o2.  Can I add a cellular data plan for an apple watch to my plan? Been told its only compatible if you purchase the iphone under contract with o2.

You can as long as it's a monthly contract.

That's what i wanted to hear.  I am having ongoing issues getting a Cellular data plan set up and o2 customer services have just advised me it cant be done as my iphone and apple watch were direct from apple and rather than from o2.  exhausted of all this now

There are issues with O2 and watch connections currently so might be best to wait a while until it's sorted out to try again.
