So out of the blue I get a text to say I’ve signed up for grocery text message alerts from 80707 and they are going to charge me £1.50 for every text they send to me. I don’t enter competitions, I’m fastidious about going and clicking the no cookies options on every site, I don’t watch reality tv or vote but yet they’ve somehow got my number. O2 don’t care they say phone the company, I’ve tried phoning and there’s no answer. They charge you for the ‘STOP’ text you send this is outrageous fraud. Someone can just get your number without permission and charge you to make them stop isn’t that blackmail??? I really hope it stops, has anyone had this? Did it stop? I’m at home with twin toddlers the only time I had to sort this out yesterday was when they were in the bath and they flooded the bathroom while I was on the phone inbetween shouting at them and trying to speak I really do not need this right now!

@Kazz

O2 have a 2 step verification in process for this.

You cannot be charged unless you text back to confirm you want to participate.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

It's good you are careful over cookies, but cookies don't have anything to do with you receving the texts from this number. It's clear you have a busy life and it's all to easy to click yes somewhere where you haven't really read what you have just agreeded to - we all do, not reading the reams of terms and conditions. I hope you get this sorted out and can stop this - the advice given by @Cleoriff is spot on and should be the way to go forward on this.

It depends on when the charges started though.
There shouldn't be any new ones now without confirmation.

Hi @Kazz

Maybe no money has been taken?

Check Account.

Obviously following the advices in the links advised by o2 Members is key to stopping this.

I put a bar on my account.  No direct to mobile charges and no premium charges this stops sneaky

under-cover scams.

I also heard that these can also come under-cover from Social Media i.e. Facebook

Putting the bars on will be a perfect answer for a busy Mum!

Good luck TallTrees

If you don't make international calls put a £0.00 spend cap on your account too .
