Airtime increase when device plan ended

I started my contract is October 2020 was paying £22 for my device plan and £28 for my airtime plan. I was on a 24 month plan so paid off the device plan in October 2022 and the following month my airtime plan went up to £36 and has stayed at that higher price ever since.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm not sure if I've been overpaying my airtime for the last year or if that's standard procedure to increase once you're just on a rolling airtime plan?

@lucybradders That should not have happened. It sounds like you're overpaying. Your contract should have just become a one month rolling contract with the same airtime tariff. I suggest you speak to the Payment Management Team on 0800 902 0217.

The opening times are:

Monday to Friday – 8am to 8pm

Saturday – 8am to 6pm
Sunday – 9am to 6pm

See if you can upgrade in My O2

If you are happy with the handset then upgrade to a sim only

Use USwitch

Our best O2 SIM only deals in October 2023 - Uswitch

Choose the deal you want

This will automatically redirect you to the O2 website

Just follow the prompts and choose the UPGRADE option

Complete the deal and nothing on your account changes except the tariff at the new cheaper cost

Payment date is the same and your next bill will be at the cheaper rate and will be made up of the pro rata cost of your old tariff and your new tariff

The change should show in My O2 within 24 hours

Volt benefits will still apply as will possibly a 3 month extra such as Disney+

@lucybradders

You would of had a discount on your airtime for the duration of your contract.

Once the contract reaches it's minimum term, the discount ends.

As @jonsie has said, you need to upgrade to a new sim only tariff if you're happy to stick with your current phone.
